I am going through a thorough service on my 1985 Ex-MOD 110 and would like to strip down, clean and test the injectors. I would like to do it myself due to the worry of pattern parts quality and also to learn a new skill. I was looking to get a test rig like this:

Is there a how to thread anywhere and any information on what the pop pressure should be set to etc? Also are good quality spares available is parts are needed for them?

I have just found that Bearmach or Delphi injector nozzles can be bought for around £11 each which seems ok. I would like to stay away from Britpart.

Break pressures etc are in the genuine landrover manual, IIRC.

Delphi probably sell the bits, they took over the CAV parts operation.

The general view is rebuilding is more hassle than its worth as its more than just the nozzle... good luck though....

I dont agree. If you have a test machine rebuilding the old CAV injectors is easy enough. Usually nozzles, pintle valves, springs and washers will deal.
 
Thanks guys, I found the relevant 7 pages in the online manual downloads (pages 164 to 170 in part B) about stripping, checking and rebuilding. I have had a good read through and am going to do it myself. I will update with pictures and how I get on in case it is any help to people in the future.
 
no point in trying to service nozzels they only fail soon after ,just fit new nozzels but unless you can set the crack off pressure and assess pattern ,leakage etc
 
Worthwhile of you have a test rig otherwise find a good service Center. If doing it yourself don't forget how dangerous the diesel is at the injector nozel, I know a mechanic who lost a finger after he got too close.
You may find that you done need nozzles if the spray pattern is good, check he dry seats ect.

Yes, you really dont want to inject that into yourself! :D

Nozzles aint expensive, probably worth changing while you have the things out and apart. Especially with the length of time they have usually gone between services on an old landy! :(
 
Well made a start today but am missing the 1" copper washers for the to lock nut so will pick some up tomorrow.

Pulled the injectors out:

I tested the injectors before disassembly and all were actually pretty good. Spray pattern was acceptable (some better than others) and all popped at a smidge under 2000psi. It will be interesting to see what the spray pattern is like with the new nozzles fitted
 
Very interesting, thank you. I've always wondered what the inside of the injector looked like. Are the bits (like needle and Spring) expensive? Can you actually adjust the break off pressure or is there a selection of springs?

If you look at the illustration it is pretty obvious how the injection pressure is adjusted. The all threaded part that retains the spring above the needle is screwed down until the required break pressure is obtained then locked with the cap.
