Hello from Brisbane, Australia!

I am currently rebuilding my 300tdi - had a hone done professionally and everything is within factory specs.

Have gapped the piston rings, measured the pistons, the bores etc etc... all measure within (standard) spec.

On fitting the pistons into their cylinders, they have a slight bit of movement within the cylinder (a wiggle, if you will). I'm wondering if this is normal? I realise that the alum pistons expand at temperature, but want to make sure before I continue with the build.

Everything has been measured and is acceptable, but just want to be sure on the movement.

Thanks in advance,
Sam

I believe the pistons are slightly oval as standard when cold but expand to the correct shape when hot. If everything measures up fine then its fine.

Just had mine re-bored over size by 40 thou. Got oversized pistons (40 thou) and gapped the rings. All fine. My pistons do not move noticeably. I did fit them with engine lube, which is a very thick assembly oil, which might be preventing any movement.
