Wasn't the window lift ECU after all that was causing the problem !!

Hi,
New to your forum, I have introduced myself on the new members page where I have listed the pas problems encountered in the last 9 years with my TD4. I also have been suffering from boot door window problems for a few years now, probably since the window got frozen up in Germany. The door always opens, no problem. Same with the dashboard window opening mechanism, perfect. However, when I open the boot door the window glass doesn't drop as much as it should. If I push it down it will often close correctly, sliding up into the slot under the trim. But not always. The door catch also sometimes doesn't engage properly, leaving me to spend 5 minutes or so manipulating the catch with the edge of the key and opening it again electronically until all functions correctly. I intend to take the car to my friendly local Citroën garage, a lot cheaper than the local Land Rover dealer, but as he doesn't know the ins and outs of this sort of problem I am hoping my symptoms sound like those others have experienced and cured! If I can point him in the right direction, he can deal with it. Could it be the Window lift ECU mentioned on another thread? I should be grateful for your experience. Thanks in advance!
 
I guess that the window not dropping is due to alignment or cable spring issues.

I fitted a cheap cable repair kit and u found the tensioner spring was too weak to pull the window down the required amount to open the door.

Can you hear the motor move when you open the door?

Has the lock mechanism been lubricated properly and recently?
 
No and no, to answer your questions. My friend the Citroen man (who suggested consulting the forum) thinks it might be door adjustment needed.It would seem possible after 11 years for the cable spring to have weakened, as you suggest. I also still think that the time it was frozen up in Germany may have distorted something when I forced it free, to enable the door to open. This all seems less serious than potentially renewing the motor etc, which someone said costs around 500€? I'll suggest the tensioner spring weakness. Perhaps he'll have to remove the door lining and check everything he finds inside. I don't consider myself competent to go go fiddling around, I have a history of making things worse!
 
If the spring is at fault you would hear the motor move a small amount to try and pull the window down.
If the motor doesn't move you need to consider the switches. Etc. I doubt it is door adjustment. More likely the window adjustment.

My biggest piece of advice is to find a freelander friendly garage or mechanic to take it to. The hippo is a sensitive soul and needs someone who knows how to treat them right!
 
Where in the world / country are you? Someone might be able to offer help or recommend a spanner spinner near you.
 
I live in Ouistreham in Normandy, where the ferry from Portsmouth comes in, near Caen. I didn't know that the Freelander was nicknamed "the hippo"! I like it!
 
my wife had that problem the window just droped enough to open the door with it catching on the top trim I found the problem though it was one of the outer cables collapsed a tiny bit I aim to put a new one on.
 
Thank you, this sounds very much like my problem! Blokey at the garage is going to have to strip the panel off the inside of the back door. I'll report back ASAP!
 
Hmm. Problem reduced but not cured. The garage found that the rear door lock was kaput, so changed it. Also re-aligned the window. The result is that the door shuts correctly but the window glass barely drops enough to clear the top trim. OK if we push it down without too much pressure. Apparently we would need to change the window motor to fix it completely. In fact, we don't much mind pushing down the window, as long as the door lock doesn't play up. Not worth spending mega-bucks on a new motor at present...
