Morning all. 1991 D90 but with what I think is a 300tdi rear axle (discs).
I've just changed the driver's side rear wheel bearing after the existing bearing collapsed- new stub axle, new hub and new bearing.
Put it all together and fitted locking and adjusting nuts, hub rotated fine without binding and no free play. Refitted halfshaft (had to wiggle it a bit to get it in) and wheel and now wheel won't rotate- no movement whatsoever. Halfshaft is type with built in drive flange. Is it possible to wrongly insert the halfshaft so the diff won't spin? The lock nut on the bearing seemed to have an additional flange on that the original didn't have- could that be jammed against the inside of the drive flange?

I think you have fitted a "stake nut " which is used to locate the bearings in later models. Refit the original locking nuts.

Yes the other wheel rotates fine as normal.
I think you might be right @tottot on google imaging "stake nut" that's def what it looks like- I knew that there was an alternative known as a 'stake nut' but I always thought a stake nut was one of those nuts with a slotted flange to use with a split pin, never make assumptions! Fortunately the bin men haven't been yet so after a bin of wheelie bin diving I've managed to find the original.
