Hi everyone I'm new to this forum, hope you can help? I bought my Freelander last Sept and had a few problems, the only one still giving me trouble is the rear tailgate, sometimes it will shut the first time, but most of the time you can be there for a while, it just wont catch. Any ideas please.

'No-Nails'??

funny but the rear tailgate on my 02 freelander has been playing up since yesterday as well so today i took the panel off the tailgate and took the rear door latch completely out. i got a screwdriver and put it in the latch to see if the lock would close but no so then i took the electric motor off the latch and tried to close again with screwdriver and behold it was locking every time so problem is in the electric motor. i then dismantled the box and checked inside in case anything could be repaired but everything looked fine so i sprayed inside the motor with wd 40 and then built everything all back together again. i then put the 2 electrical plugs back on and tried with the screwdriver again and it didn't lock closed again. every time i tapped the motor it released itself and pushed upwards and stayed locked every time. i built all into door again and didn't work at first so i tapped just below the door look where the 2 screws are cause that's where the motor is and now everything is fine. maybe the wd 40 worked it's way in. if it mess's up again i'll just get another part from the breakers yard. so if mine doesn't stay closed again i'll just tap below the lock and that will do the trick till i get a replacement part, but so far so good.
