Wondering if anyone has any ideas.. Ive got 2 dogue de bordeauxs (french mastiffs) ones 9 stone and the others 8 stone. Their not natural jumpers and after a longish walk I have to pick them up and lift them back out of the disco lol. This is fine for me but not so easy for the wife when the big one out weighs her.. :D

Has any one seen any sort of folding steps that could attach to the back... we did have a ramp but it is really bulky and takes up loads of space. ideally looking for something compact/folding they can walk up and down.
 
There is a fold down rear step fitted to some high badge D1's,also on D2's.They have a gas spring to hold them up until stepped on.The gas spring is exposed to the elements and tends to fail leaving the step hanging down,thus you often encounter vehicles with them fixed up out the way by cable ties etc.The reason they are not fixed is the price of the replacement spring.If you can find a working one on a vehicle at a general breaker you should be able to buy it for reasonable money,if you go to a LR yard,they will know the new cost and charge you accordingly.You need to put your foot on the step to push it down and hold it there for the dogs to climb.Otherwise I have used various ones that mount on the tow bracket and go about 20 quid each.I have tried all the designs and found that the dogs were less upset by the ones with a solid plate rather than bars that they can see through.These things regularly get bent but they are cheap and they work.

You told us what dogs you got.....what truck is it?Those I mention are only relevent to D1 and 2.....I have no knowledge at all about the later alledged land rovers.
 
Sorry, its a TD5 metropolis. It has the drop down step on the spring, but thats too close to the bumper for them really.

Do you have a link to the tow bar attaching contraptions.

Given the size and weight of your dog's I'd be inclined to use a light weight folding ramp similar to this. Get the right one and it won't take up too much space.
 
At one time we had 3 German Shepherds and as they got older we used an aluminium folding ramp from "BARJO ENGINEERING" which was ideal.The ramp was surfaced with a rough surface to give grip.
Your dogs are heavier but google "Barjo" and look at their products.
We carried the ramp on the back seat or behind the passenger seat.
We also had a rear tailgate guard which was excellent for opening the back door and keeping dogs in fresh air when stopped and also from exiting 3 at a time.

They stick out no further than the single step version, totally legal, mines been on 4 years with no issues
 
Had them on all my vehicles,including discos,been through multiple MOTs,police pulls even a ministry stop-check,never a word.Widely available and widely used.
