Something has come up on my radar which I had not considered.

Are you allowed to put kids in the back of a defender? and can you put 3 point seatbelts in for their seats?

I have 3, and was weighed up between a 90, and chuck all 3 in the back, or a 110 and chuck one in the back with the other two on the 2nd row of forward facers.

Ideally, I wanted bench seats, they take up less room when folded.

I do want a defender, and Im getting one one way or another, but at the same time, I want my kids to be safe (and legal)

I've looked into this and it depends on age of kids!
There are quite a few threads on this if you do a search.
If you need to put a child's car seat in the back of a 90 and you want the seats to fold out of the way when not in use then you need forward facing lockable seats- quite pricey( check out exmoor) someone on here found some cheaper ones but I can't remember where from!

Ah nuts, that makes it a 110 then! the kids are 3,4 and 7 (might just be tall enough to not need, not measured recently)
right, now that has made the decision on 90/110 for me...

Your kids will be legal on side facing seats, so long as you don't fit seatbelts. Because there are no anchorage points, there is no requirement to use seat boosters child seats etc. As soon as you fit anchorage points, then that requirement kicks in. Seat belt provisions in construction and use regs all relate to forward or rearward facing seats. But children of certain heights etc must be in a child seat where there is a seat belt fitted - this provision doesn't specify in which direction the seat should face. However, a child seat may not be fitted in a side-facing seat. So don't fit anchorage points and you'll be all right.

Cheers, the 7 y/o will be fine, not sure the wife will go for it witj the other 2 in a 90 tho. Nevermind a 110 has more space for junk in the back! And means I won't need a roofrack for holidays.
