Hi,

I've got a 200tdi 110 hard top with Salisbury axles (with discs on the rear)

I've got a huge amount of Backlash in the Rear diff and so was looking at replacing it,

Having looked around it seems easiest to just buy a whole new (or old) axle with drum brakes and swap the diff over.

I assume there aren't going to be any differences between the diff in an axle with drum brakes and one with discs? I just wanted to check before I purchased it.

I'm new to the forum, so sorry if this is a bit of newbie question, or posted in wrong section or anything! I've only recently purchased my 110 and have been enjoying the challenge of learning how to keeping it moving!

Thanks,

you can buy either diffs as they are the same, axle tubes are the same ,its just wheel stations that differ and will swap over

Is the backlash in the diff, or a culmination of diff mesh, and play at either end of the half shafts requiring new shafts and flanges.

My backlash was due to a 2 inch lift without corrected arms. Once i dropped to standard, all ok.

Hmm, I'll have to check that. I thought it was the diff because I've turned the rear prop (which turns quite a lot) and I can hear the loud clonking in the diff that I hear when taking up drive.

I would spend £100 on your diff reconing at a tranny place, u would need to take it out for that price. When you buy most recon diffs axles etc they only replace what need replacing, u may well end up with higher milage contents with new bearings.

Yours may just need bearings and meshing right

Just something to think about mate, iv had the replace everything bug, but it's not always necessary.
