Hi all, I've gone to refit the propshaft (after g/box repair) & as it was off the road for so long the uj's on the rear prop are stiff & one locks after a small amount of movement so has anyone replaced the uj's without any vibration problems afterwards or shall I try & find a s/h one ? Any advice/suggestions greatfully received.

You don't hear of the UJs needing replacement much.

However, a number of years ago, I went and had a look at an F1 that was for sale cheap. The bloke was quite keen to let me know that it had just had new UJs on the prop shaft... not quite so keen to tell me that the gearbox had lost 3 gears!

Do they not just need some lube and freeing up?

Hi, I might just do that as I've just had a quote from a prop recon place for £200 😮. One joint has all the movement it should (I thought I'd do both as a precaution). Prop place says it's not necessary to re-balance just for uj change. I'll try the lube route. 🙂

I have changed them before. Not a hard job.

May be worth taking them out, clean and re grease as above and if not worn refitting same ??
Hi, once the circlips are removed do they just tap out? The uj, diff end is fine as is the one on the front prop. it's one axis on the rear prop, VCU end, that moves a bit then stops. All the uj's are smooth, even the bit of movement I get on the 'problem' one, so that sounds like a plan, many thanks.

I use a socket that fits on the uj in the hole where clip was. Then use a G clamp and push fully one way. Larger socket over cap being removed. Pop one end with the rollers out and then service cap.

Refit that cap and use that to push over to other side and repeat.
