Hi all. 2003 Discovery 2 Tdi facelift model.

I noticed that the brackets that hold the rear wheel mudguards to the chassis have rotted through and snapped (well one has and the other's on it's way)

Are these available as spare parts ? or do I just need to bend up some pieces of galv/stainless and rivet them on ?

They are available for about £20 each. They're handed as well. Have a poke at the steel mudguard brackets the stays are attached to, they might be in **** state as well. I know mine is on nearsidr. I got the bracket and stay for £40 But haven't got round to fitting them yet, but if I had more time I'd probably fashion my own like you said

I would agree with fitting the galvanised mudguards but it’s worth remembering that they are fitted with large diameter pop rivers which need to be drilled or ground off to remove. I replaced mine with 6 mm zinc coated bolts,the only problem ones are the one that fastens the stay to the underside of the body which necessitates getting under the trim in the boot area, also the one that fastens to the outer rear wing can be a pain to get behind. It’s all doable though.

Replaced mine a few years ago and I had to do a lot of fettling in order to get them on because everything that they are supposed to connect to was also rotted away. Turned a 1 hr job in to an all day fight as I had to fabricate some extra brackets, mounting plates etc etc. All part of the fun!

This is why I haven't found the courage to tackle mine yet

Same here. I fitted the galvanised ones from YRM mentioned above and also painted them over with Por15.

One screw went through the clip if I remember rightly. I had to rivet bits of steel on to have a fixing point where the hole was.

It all came out alright in the end.
