Hi

the proper 52mm box spanner won't shift it, and neither will a chisel and heavy hammer blows.

Have drowned it in penetrating fluid.

Am I OK to apply heat?

i have a 52mm king dick socket, 1" drive with a 4' bar, not had one yet it dont shift

My dad has made a 52mm socket and braised a handle on to it, works a treat, if there is any rubber near it I wouldn't apply heat IMO

just use chisel to split nut over the flat or key way for lockwasher

Yep, splitting the but and peeling it off the shaft is looking the way this one is going to go

Weirdly enough i've had the same problem. Not fixed it yet, as I want to get replacement nuts before I destroy it, but my plan is to drill a few holes in it, until i've gone all the way through and then it should come off (or at least unscrew fairly easily...)

Landrover Classic Hub Nut Socket 52mm 1/2 Drive | eBay

This and a 3 foot breaker bar should see it gone. It's also safe to use with an impact gun.

Thanks for that - saw some but they were £25!!!

Not a problem Yer there seems to be a big difference in price depending where you buy it from. I've given mine a fair bit of abuse both on the end of a snap-on impact gun and with a lump hammer as a drift (not on wheel bearings mind!) and it still looks like new.

Be careful when slitting the nut against the lock tab flat, although there is no threads to get damaged at that point, the axle tube is quite thin and you can deform it, crushing it inwards, the drill method is best if it is really badly stuck, ive had to drill the odd one off in the past, as well as the outer bearing race in the case of a RMC 110! but the big 52mm impact socket and breaker bar or impact gun usually works best for me,

have you actually split a nut , there isnt a risk of crushing stub axle
