I was driving my defender yesterday and the rear drivers wheel locked up. After skidding from both ends I stopped and wondered what to do next. I thought I'd try and pull away which it did without a problem😫 I've checked everything poss but all seems fine. Any ideas please.

Wheel bearing inner race collapsed maybe. Mine did it on the Disco, drove 30 odd miles home to find the inner race was now welded to the stub axle .. had to replace axle and bearing, easy enough to do, just awkward.

What he said! You have seized a bearing, you need to strip it and repair it or it will do more damage.

Look at mine, gone for a while I would say. Calloupsed taking half shaft with it and then had to replace the stub axel as it was oval

Thanks for all your answers. Spot on by the way. Inner race munted, stub axle cream crackered too. Does anyone think this is down to having wheel spacers fitted

It is a fact that wheel spacers increase the load on wheel bearings but whether you could actually blame them for the failure is questionable.
