is it white with a multitude of BLACK wires leading to it cos that's what I see after getting the panel off

have got the offsider panel off the one over the wheel arch is the plug white with black wires leading to it
I think there's only one socket free for the tow bar so it should be pretty obvious. Can't remember the colours though.

The tow bar plug is hidden behind the inner structure, and normally has a blank plug fitted.

The white plastic thing with the black wires could be the ground connection, if it's bolted to the frame?

If all wires are black it is more than likely an earth point. Trailer socket has wires with different colours and is hidden from view behind the metalwork in the rear quarter panel.

This shows the earth block in white bolted to the bodywork and the trailer socket is on the end of the black covered cable at the bottom of the photo with the plug behind the metal work. The plug has many different colour wires in it - and maybe a spare plug - there was on mine.
