hi all,

i've had a look around and can't seem to find a similar question but would have thought it'd be a common problem.

whenever i have my spare wheel on the rear carrier (normally in the back unless i have passengers) it shakes and rattles the whole door whenever i go over the slightest bump. does anyone know of some way i can adjust the hinges or something to stop it making all this noise? I'm fairly sure it's coming from the hinges, the bolts securing the carrier to the door and its homemade steel strengthening plate are all tight

thanks if you can help :)

you got a 100 lbs hanging on the door. New hinges sound in order, or a swing away tyre carrier to take the weight of the door

I'm not sure if this is any help , but my rear door used to rattle like mad , drove me bonkers , but the worst rattles actually came from the catch part , so i did a little adjustment by unscrewing a small square rubber piece ( you'll see it on the body part of the catch , not the door part) and i turned it round so that the worn part was facing the other way and screwed it back up , now the door seems to make a much better contact and the catches etc don't rattle.

cheers mudfever i'll try that!

there's nothing wrong with the wheel carrier but i suppose the door frame could well be shagged

Adjust the striker plate and check the door seal. but as said chances are the weight of the wheel has buggered the door frame. carry a can of tyre weld. and leave the spare at home. :D

One of the first things I did when I got my landy was take the wheel and carrier off the back door, having it there has shagged the door frame to the point of needing a new door!

Having the wheel in the back is a bit annoying but much better than the rattle, rattle, rattle.............rattle, rattle, rattle..........every time I go over a bump!

If you take the door card off you'll see the wheel carrier is bolted to a reinforcing plate that in turn is bolted to the door frame. make sure these bolts are tight and haven't worked loose. After seeing my mates TD5 door get completely shagged driving over the track we regularly have to use I fitted a swing away carrier - no more rattles.

i had to put a big steel plate on with some bolts and steel plates on the inside of the door and made a new piece of ply for the door. i almost always have it in the back it's just when i'm giving people lifts and stuff that it can't be in the back
