hi, on unlocking the car today, the rear door failed to open, tried locking/unlocking on the key fob buttons with no joy, now when hitting the lock button on the fob, I get one honk of the horn? does that mean batteries in fob are at fault, or is it more serious with the door mech itself?

couldn't open with key either, not that Ive ever tried that,

really need the backdoor working

Hi the same thing happen to me a few day's ago what worked for me was locking/unlocking on the key fob buttons and using the key to try and open the rear door after a couple of tries it opened It's not technical but it worked for me good luck.

if the horn sounds while you are pressing the the fob it means a door is open a bip bip from inside the car is the battery in the remote needs changing

bout as much help as a chocolate tea pot, cheers
you do hope that after using the search button and not getting an answer, that posting the question will get some help, but maybe members are now just zombiefied into putting up posts with a search emoticon

1 bleep from horn when pressing the lock button on the fob = it thinks theres a door open.

Does the tailgate handle open the tailgate?
Do you hear the relay click from inside above where the fool filler is, when using the tailgate handle?
Do you hear a click from the tailgate handle when slowly trying to open the tailgate (small switch click sound)
Does the tailgate window work?

I think yer Freelander won't operate the tailgate door release because it thinks it's already open.

no just a lot more informative and quicker to do a search as it's been covered many times over and over again.

i was trying to help by pointing you towards some of the already in depth discussions about the many causes of your FL's problem.

I've managed to get the rear panel off with the door still closed, as in the past one of the wires came off the rear window and I soldered it back on, thought that might have been the cause, but that is still ok,
so is there a way to bypass the electric stuff, to get the door open and give me a better view inside?

I had thought about getting the wife to press the switch to lower rear window, whilst I use a glass sucker to pull the window down just a few millimeters

Try the window switch inside first , if that fails , press left button on fob for 2 seconds , rear window normally goes down , the handle key lock is used to close the window only ! I have seen on here a way to open the door lock but you will have to have a trawl ;)

I don't think the window will drop by holding the fob if it thinks the tailgate is open. Someone could try this out for you and report back.

Do you hear the click sounds from the handle and relay above the fool filler inside?

todays attempt;

so tried using a glass sucker that I use for work, to coax the window down whilst the wife used the switch in dash, it didn't work as such, but my wiggling of the window, released the door catch, of course the window was still in the up position and still inside the channel, but some gentle prying of the channel and the door was open,

gave me a clearer view of the doors insides, not that it made much difference, lol

trying the 2 second push on left button does nothing, trying the switch on dash does nothing, but while pressing the switch, you can hear the window mechanism ??

so any ideas peeps, would it be the motor itself, or a solenoid that tells the motor to work?

at least I can open/shut/lock the rear door, but of course the glass is outside of the weather channel, so it will leak in the rain, but whats a little damp in the rear, not uncommon with freelanders, lol

Any sound from , the door handle when you pull it , or the solenoid that works the lock , as hippo said the relays , I would check fuses also , its been known for the wires to break in the rubber , from the car to the door , failing this check if theres power to the window motor , good luck !

the door now locks and unlocks fine, but the window dont drop as normal, and the horn beeps to say theres a door open?

checked fuses and they ok
I'll have to pop into the garage to get wiring checked out, but cheers anyway
