Hi All,
I got a new rear door from paddocks spares and had the landrover sprayed. Now the Job done on the rest of the defender is a great job however the back door has started bubbling inside of a 5 months. So it seems that there is water leaking in around the frame of the door and the door skin. So inevitably to happen again. If I go back to paddocks at best they will probably send out the same again and take back the door (hopeful thinking). So I'm wondering is it better to just try and seal it up with wax, dinitrol etc and paint again?
 
May well be bi metal corrosion, an inter action between different metals, in this case between the aluminium skin and steel frame. Properly made doors have a sealant between the two but replacements often do not. Any water getting in will speed the reaction.

Hi Tottot,

You have hit the nail on the head there, two different metals interacting. I don't understand why they did do that, adding aluminium skin with steel frame, and wondering now am I better to try getting a refund or exchange and try get another door.
 
You may suffer the same fate with a new door, especially if its the same brand. If the damage is only to the paint - i.e cosmetic it might be worth asking your body shop to try an isolator coat or seam sealant.
 
And after the above put plenty of wax oil or similar over the inside before fitting door card.
There are fully galven frame and skin doors available but they are not cheap.
 
There was a guy on here who was fabricating rear doors in NI. Cant think of his name but if you search doors or rear doors, the conversation will come up.
