Hi all,

My rear door locks are hit and miss to whether they work and unlock the doors. Have played around with them, adjusted them, etc, but still no good, as really annoying when you unlock the disco, yank the handle and nothing, then having to reach around the front door to pull up the tab. They always manage to lock the doors tho.

So I reckon new motors are needed - well they have had 15 years of use I suppose....so I just wanted to check that the maplins door locks are a perfect replacement (the 2 wire version as seen here Door Lock Motors : InCar Security : Maplin ) or is it best to get them from somewhere else?

Cheers

Maplins CL actuators will work but it's not plug and play the wiring colour code is different and they don't come with compatable plugs so you will have to remove the old plug and solder if you wish to retain them.

The actuator mounting plate will require adjusting to get them functioning on lock/unlock much the same as your existing ones, have you tried a splash of WD inside your old actuators and reajusting their mounting plate? if they lock then there's not much wrong.

You may be able get proper disco actuators from a scrap yard/car breakers if there is one near you.

I haven't actually taken them off yet, just tried to reposition them to see if that helped, and also lubricated all the locking mechanism.

Thought it might just be easier to replacement them, if I was going to take them out.

I did guess that I would just snip the wires prior to the plug from the original motor and then solder them to the new lock wires to save messing around with the plug, and enable them to be unpugged.

Are they the same size, or will I need to drill new mounting holes?

Like everything in the disco, not just a simple 'switch over'

Yes the fixing holes are a match.
In the actuator is a small electric motor that spins one way on unlocking and the other way on locking and operates the plastic rod via cog, also there is dab of grease inside and over the years that stiffens up and stops the motor spinning and or the rod moving hence the splash of WD inside to get things moving again and maybe then a slight adjustment of a few millimetres on the fixing plate, it's a fine line with the adjustmemt.

Thanks for that, will have a look at my motors, and see if I can bring them back to life first

I have the same problem on my TD5, they lock fine but dont seem to unlock on remote, have to lean over and open from inside.. real pain in the arse... will have to try the WD40 trick first and see if that makes any difference..
