Right so my rear diff seal has been weeping since i got the car,
I finally got round to doing it today.
I removed the prop and expected to find a large nut.........
Instead i found a rod probably 24mmish sticking out.
After i phone call to a disco owning mate all became clear
Mine is the 3 bolt flange.
It should have a threaded hole in the end,
It looks like someone has wound an m8 bolt in snapped it off attempted to remove it and given it up as a bad job.
My question is how the hell do i remove it now?
Iv put it back together for the time being and cleared the breather pipe which is what i suspect caused the problem in the first place:(

:nopics:

drill and screw extractor. If there's more than 10mm showing I have a set of stud extractors you could try???? If ya anywhere near the South West..

Its not my pic but it shows the bit im stuck with.
the shiney bit thats got a threaded hole in it.
The broken bolt is flush iv had an easyout in it. It won't budge.
Im thinking about welding a slide hammer to it to get it out, can this bit be bought?

seems like a plan ,you could clean it up after or id have a used one kicking about or they can be bought new

depends how tight i use a slide hammer with 8mm thread welded to it ,some will come out if you wind a long bolt through it ,or make a puller up

when I did mine I used a bit of tube some washers, bolt and a bit of heat and the pin fell out, if it was me and the bolt had snapped id cut down the side of the 3 bolt flange and replace with a 4 bolt flange and 200tdi prop

Davo26,
Mine still has a stud extractor (easy out my ar*e) stuck in, which snapped off when trying to extract the M8 bolt which snapped when i tried to extract the Pinion.
So i'm either going to
1) cut a groove into the 3 bolt flange,(i have a replacement) which should release the pinion.
2) or like you said Dave weld a rod onto the pinion and use a slide hammer.

Good luck,

Bemmy

Thanks for that I will give it a try tomorrow

Heat it up. A blow torch might work, but oxyacetylene would be better. It's a bonded/interference fit so heat will destroy the bonding as well as reducing the interference.
