Diff mount definitely needs replacing. Not sure about input shaft. Are you getting any grinding noises from rear on full lock?
By the way, liking the videos and photos, hopefully they'll help future Freelander owners diagnose and fix problems. All helps.
I don’t get any grinding noises on reverse lock. New bush is on order from the stealer. I’ve given them so much hassle over dodgy work they know me when I only give my first name.
I like the idea of pictures too. I’m happy for people to link to them (right click and select properties to see the location where they’re stored). The hippophoto mark in them is due to having problems with a troll playing games. Just ignore it and post them up if it helps others. I’ll put up some before and after video’s of the centre bush movement so others can see the difference, after I’ve fitted the new one.
cv joint grease, i'm sure it can be bought in sachets. it is a graphite type grease i think, how did you get on with the anti roll bar bushes hippo?
I haven’t sorted the anti roll bushes. The fault stopped after I asked the question. It then passed an mot, and the bloke couldn’t see anything wrong. Yesterday it came back so I’ll have a look while I’m under it at the weekend and see if I can pin point the location. Bought myself some chassis ears recently. £100 off fleebay. 3rd of the price of what they were 2 years ago. Kit made by alba. Has 6 sensors and also an electronic stethoscope too. Hopefully this will help to pin point the problem. I’ll probably end up flogging them on fleebay when I’ve finished.
When you order a replacement gaiter it should come with the grease provided. Ask before you order, if they say not, buy it somewhere else!!
Ordered a stretching gaiter off ebay today. Comes with some grease as you suggest. Comes with a tool to allow you to stretch it over things. Made by these people:
Home and there’s a video to watch here:
Cone Fitting Video I’ll post something up on the previous topic on the prop gaiter thread if I manage to do it at the weekend. I’ve also bought some hose clips to hold it in place. We’re thinking the fact that this gaiter is more flexible than normal, will allow it to survive the constant flexing as the prop etc spins round. It’s worth a try.
While I’m here… I’ve seen many good write ups on here. I’ve done a few write-ups myself, on things I’ve taken apart or fixed. I’m far from an expert on mechanics, but like to dabble. If it’s ok with you lot I’d like to do the same on here. Similar to busters write-ups, but I won’t be wearing pink. Is this ok and do you post them on here first, then someone moves them to the technical section, or post them in the technical section directly. Not really sure of the protocol on here and wouldn’t want to offend anyone. I’m still writing up my v6 cam belt change. Got a few write-ups on the way like the center diff mount (not sure if it’s already been done) and the air con compressor clutch bearing replacement.
