Hello all,
So I've had a leak on the Rear Diff of my 2014 FL2 since I bought it a couple months back.
We switched out the oil (hadn't lost much) the other day and discovered the Filler Plug hole is largely stripped, not the plug, the actual casing hole itself. Yikes.

I found the part number for the plug (LR002877) in the hope I would find out the dimensions/specs of the hole to hopefully rectify with a Helical Insert

Please could someone assist? Thanks!
 
I've not measured the plug, but it looks about M18 maybe. I'll take a look at my scrap diff at the weekend if it helps

That would be great if you could... I would whip out the plug that's in it, but we had to fight it too get it secured back in until we can repair it!
So would rather not make it worse than it already is

No problem, I'll look at the weekend. It's a surprise it's been damaged, as either nobody takes them out, and if they do it's not a tight plug, just nipping it up is enough. Maybe the diff is a poor quality reconditioned unit, as they fail alarmingly quickly.

The diff has had its O Seal replaced in the past by a previous owner for a leak, by the torque on every other bolt on the car, their mechanic is a whap-it-up with a impact drill kinda person, all of them are insanely tight and beyond the suggest Nm

Those are the sorts of vehicles I hate to work on or own.
It's pure laziness not to use a torque wrench, especially on torque critical fasteners.

Yep, same here, it sucks but rectifying it and checking things over as I work through the car!
The Gearbox, PTU & Haldex have no history of being touched so praying to the great LR God that they are okay, they are the next things on my list too attack 😅

That's one of the reasons Bell Engineering had to scrap my Haldex as some Grease Monkey in the past had used an impact drive to do the nut up so tight it cracked the case leading to lose of oil so the discs ground to a paste and destroyed the Haldex.

Jeez, thats ridiculous!
They never think of the next person, I thought finding a rounded off sump plug was bad enough but a cracked unit, scary!
One reason I prefer to do the maintenance myself (with help from Dad at times 😅), least then I know whats been done and how it's been done.
Not sure how some Grease Monkeys keep their jobs, I sent my car back 4 times to the garage after having a wheel bearing replaced because they were blowing out after a week, 4 attempts to get it right.. God knows what they were doing, the first 2 attempts was put down to cheap parts, after that they must have put it in with a sledge hammer!
