Hi Anyone ever heard of this before Diff' bolt working loose, for the second time in 4 weeks I have had to get under and tighten up the diff bolt on the passenger side, There are 5 bolts in total two on either side and one at the front. each time I have had to tighten the front bolt and the two on the passenger side, the two on the drives side are OK. Unfortunately this time I lost the upper bolt on the Passenger side. The garage say they've never heard of this before.

Thanks guys you've just solved a problem that's been bugging me for a while, it all coming together now the bolts a light thudding noise when reversing of my drive at an angle.
I believe the Diff mountings are shot allow the diff to move more than normal and the bolts which were removed when the diff was rebuilt could not have had lock tight applied by the garage when the work was done. I think I've convinced myself I've resolved the problem. And I've just printed off how to do the job, thanks to Hippo.

Sorry have no idea what the Turip test is, it sounds insulting

It's a test used to see how much torque is needed to turn the VCU. A stiff VCU will strain the diff bushes amongst other more serious things ;)

Hi All
Here's an update the garage tell me that one of the diff mounts is broken there trying to find a replacement any suggestion. And the right hand drive shaft appears not to be returning to the diff when pulled out but the left hand does, tried looking in my manual but there's no mention of it being spring loaded !!!

The diff mounts are available pretty cheap. By broken do you mean the rubber part or the alloy part? The drive shaft is held into the diff with a C ring. If it's loose won't the oil have come out? a loose drive shaft might be the reason the bolts are coming loose due to vibration.

And the final diagnoses is the front Diff mount had gone which in turn had caused a problem with right hand drive shaft damage £270 bummer, and the moral of this story is if you here noise get it checked out.
