hi guys
looking at replacing my rear crossmember on my 1989 v8 90
looked at some other threads and it seems to make sense to buy the member with extensions on to make fitting easy
one question can anyone recomend a crossmember that fits as we all know some of these aftermarket parts dont fit very well :)

i bought a britpart one off ebay very cheap and witout the extention legs it fitted no problem , was expecting many problems but none except getting the mig torch in some of the crannys to weld it right , one tip make sure you grind off all the basepaint where it needs welding first , and make sure you have a recipercating saw to cut the old one off makes life so much easier

Mate bought an allmakes4x4 one, fitted fine. Bit more difficult on a 110 cause of the fuel tank. We used his plasma cutter, made it easy. As mentioned tho, bloody hard to get access!

MIB 3mm is going on mine too when I get round to it in a month or two, should be the last major repair on the current list.

Then I just need to try and get my CSW registered as an 'estate'... not to derail the thread but what's their fitting service like?

Mib Warwick and 4x4 reborn (warwick) I think are the same people. I got my 3mm heavy duty rear x member fitted to a 90 last Jan. I was pleased with the fitting service and they did it while I waited.... not sure what the prices are now. Cant see them advertising on ebay.

I have used a few britpart ones with extensions, never had any fitting problems, Just make sure every thing is clean before welding

My friend had one from MIB in warwick, it fitted very well and was clearly well made. I have a britpart one as i got it for £30 and will never buy one from them again. Really poor quality, very thin with only tack welds on much of it

update !!
thanks for the replies guys , ordered a heavy duty crossmember with extensions from MIB warwick today,
there are cheaper ones around but i would rather pay more for one that fits.
allthough some suppliers are selling britpart at £130 + vat , the MIB heavy duty was £157 inc vat, would have been £1 cheaper if i bought britpart :)

Totally agree ... that's what I fitted. Hand made and fitted perfectly. You can get a heavy duty version, 3mm instead of 2mm if you do a lot of towing.

And it has T shapes to take a hi-lift instead of the tubes for the land rover jack :D

fitted the hd mib crossmember on sunday , very good fit a little trimming and grinding seam welded all the way around , rewired rear loom soldered and heatshrink, etch primmed and top coated welds finished with a coat of black waxoil mixed with hydraulic oil inside and outside chassis .job done :)

I just had a Britpart installed.
The original mudflaps dont line up without modding.
The original tow assembly will not work without massive modding.
Feels light and cheap compared to the original.

However it did mount up easily.

Good stuff, thanks for letting us all know ... the fella at Mib is a top chap, met him at the Stoneleigh show which is where I bought mine from. Should get many years out of that now. :)

great thread guys someone rear ended my 90 at the start of the month and ive bought my truck back from the insurance and it just needs a new crossmember
