The saga continues. Had a quick look at the rear crank seal (I put it in when I re did the engine couple of years ago).
It’s leaking slightly around the edge, not around crank.

I was just going to change it. I’ve heard best to use a bit of hylomar blue (the non setting gasket compound) around the seal. Or would it be better to use a bit of the hylomar white sealant? I’m using cortico seal, the closest to the original dowty.

Also, I was going to take the fly wheel housing off and do the seal on the bench or can you put them in without taking the housing off?

Is this becoming a total rebuild

Did mine with just the flywheel off, mine also came loose in the housing, green loctite on the new genuine one sorted the leak out.
Dont forget to use supplied install tool, and to make sure seal contact face and crank are spotless and bone dry of any oil.

Also, after fitting the seal don't start the engine for around 12 hrs. This allows the seal time to get back into shape after being stretched on the install tool.
(I left mine for 24hrs as really didn't want to take it apart again).

Ha, no fear of that as I've got the gear box to replace, rear suspension to sort, rear drive flanges to replace......

Hint, when I last did mine I found the Dowty seal very reluctant to go in. Half an hour in the freezer sorted it. RTV silicon [ a tad on out side of crank seal ] Also did mine with housing off and fitted new housing to block gasket, this is a large item and comes with beads of sealer all ready on it.
