Hello everyone!
I was researching on this wonderful site earlier on about what could possibly be causing the clunking noise on my Freelander when I come off the clutch after changing gear. The clunking is also heard if I Decelerate then accelerate. Is there anyone on here local to me in the Birmingham/Worcestershire area who is a complete nutter (by this I mean someone who loves doing these sort of jobs as a hobby!) that might be prepared to help me out by fitting what I believe to be new bushes somewhere at the rear? Im a mature student Nurse without much money to spare, going to a garage to have this job done. I would really appreciate any help offered.

Thank You

John (Redditch)

Prob front bush on rear diff....costs about a tenner and is easy to fit..Jack and support back of motor using body only...(not subframe)....loosen bush and then loosen rear subrame and allow to drop by about an inch....you will find its easy to swop and replace old bush tighten everything back up and bingo job done ...less than half an hour

Word of advice, dont buy the cheaper rear diff mountings!!! I did, only laste 9 months, and was completely shagged, I bought genuine and its been there for 2 years so far. NB its usually the one without " HARMONIC DAMPER " that goes first.

As said, most likely the front/centre rear diff mount, if not, the VCU mounts.

The rear diff mount is fairly easy. Leave yourself a morning and have a go...

If you remove the center bolts from the two rear mountings you can remove the front one without loosening the subframe or unbolting the prop shaft.

Mines also a V6 and if you take out the center bolts of the rear two you can push the diff. over just enough to get the front mounting out.

I also had this fault, I replaced the centre rear diff mount yesterday using ianda12's method and found it very simple. The hardest bit was freeing the bolts ( mainly coz I was trying to undo the larger side which as you know are welded to the sub frame, I know, im dumb). Anyway, job done, thanks for the advice.

You were spot on. Job don for £11, Cheers.

Mines started the good old "clunk" on clutch up. Trouble is some twonk welded the subframe to the body shell. Thanks for the tip IANDA12. ;)

Great tip! Attached a pic so you can see how the front diff mount looked like. Totally shot. Freelander is from December 2003. 110000 km. Cheers!

Your welcome mate, glad you sorted it, thiese little probs can be annoying until you look in the right area, even then it can be hard to spot especially with the two at the back of the Diff.
