Hello All

Is there a kind person with knowledge of Freelander (2000) rear brakes who could help me replace cylinders and shoes.

I would really like to have ago at this and not take it to a garage

We were off out other day to take the dogs into the woods and just as we left home at the 1st junction the brake pedal went to the floor so we had to return asap (500 yds), when back on the drive brake fluid peeing out of the O/S rear wheel

Would someone like to come and help me(or giude me) change the rear cylinders and shoes, endless amounts of tea or coffee provided and a bacon sandwich (and if i've got any mince pies left you can have 1 of them too)
I live at the north side of Sheffield, very close to J36 M1,

I'm working today and tomorrow but free all weekend

i do have spanners and socket set etc and a gunson bleeder kit, new shoes & cylinders and just giong out for fluid now

You sure it's from the drum cylinders & not the copper brake line into back of drum , Mine needed replacing as was corroded ?

I was going to ask a similar question. One of the flexible hoses went on mine, it had been rubbing on the hand brake cable

If you are not confident with car brakes, take it to a brake fitting centre!
 
well it looks like only me having one of my wifes super smashing bacon (egg sausage & mushroom sarnies) on saturday mornin
had a look at the Haynes manual it doesn't look like major surgery so going to have a ago

Took O/S drum off to find the pin which holds the brake shoe in place missng (snapped) so shoe has moved out of place and cylinder has shot piston out of one side.
Can't put back together yet because i don't have new pins to hold shoes in place and i need new bolts to hold cylinder on, old ones well siezed so had to cut them off
Great fun and simples really
Bacon sausage egg tom mushroom sarney was awsome

Set about the rear brakes today after the pins arrived mid week from Rimmer bros.
EASY PEASY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hand brake on N/S was almost siezed (very stiff on shoe, Cable ok)
and another full monty sarny
Back on the road again, WEY HAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3 amigos to sort now, BO WHO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done if you read up on what to do and have common sense take your time and stop and ask if unsure then normally most things can be achieved in time. To stop the pin on the shoe seizing in future coat it in copperslip after removing and cleaning it does help keep it free in the future.
