Hi I was checking the rear drivers side brake as the handbrake was not good I found one of the shoes was not in the slot of the cylinder after sorting that I now have a clicking sound when braking I have took the drum back off but cant see what is causing the clicking anyone got any idea thanks

You clearly need to do a brake SYSTEM O/H,

Regardless of what Freelander you have(you don't say) you need to have them checked over,soon....!

Clicking could be the self adjusters. But as previously stated get them checked or do an overhaul yourself.

Hi that's what I was doing checking the shoes too see if they needed replaced it dose have new brake spring clips fitted and all looks clean and dry the clicking when breaking only started after I put the top shoe back in the slot of the piston its a 2001 1.8

Only make the sound on breaking?

Does the frequency of the clicking sound decrease as the car slows?

If all the springs, retainers and adjuster are fitted correctly I'd say the miss-alignment off the shoe has either buggered the shoe or drum, perhaps both.

update ok I tried adjusting the brake shoes and looked for any scrape marks etc but could not see any so today I swapped the drums over and now the clicking has stopped so ill wait and see if the clicking returns again
