the rear drivers side piston is semi seized and dryish looking under the seal,so i want to stick a new piston and seals in. can i leave the caliper attached, pump the piston out ,then quickly clamp off the flexible bit of the cable (the bit with the wire coil on it?) to stop all the fluid buggering off, and if so, what is best for this and how tight can you compress the cable ?
Presumably i then have to open the bleed screw in order to allow me to push the new piston and seals back in?, then bleed until all air gone.
help save me what i know will have to be a new caliper (or 2!) if i take it to a garage. ta
 
Hello kevinjs, clamp your brake hose with between 2 pieces of fairly thick rubber matting using mole grips and keep it clamped til your done then you should only have to bleed that caliper.

Thanks for your help guys,the bore of the caliper was well dodgy,piston scrap,so i quickly got new caliper (£50 from local landy centre - cheaper than paddocks!! even got refund for piston + seals ),then all back together while flexible pipe still clamped off !!, and while i was there new disc and pads.bobs your uncle.Didn't even top up brake fluid, only lost tablespoon or two.:D:D:D:D:D:D

Defo going to do the same on the other side saturday.
