Hi,
Have recently bought a freelander 1 and Noticed the rear light cluster doesn’t light up when the brake is pressed or when the headlamps are turned on, but if I turn the fog lights on they light up. All other break lights at the rear work. Any ideas why this is?

Thanks in advanced

I reckon you need to change this.

No mate, it’s the rear brake light switch, it’s located above the brake pedal, bit awkward to get off and replace. I found it easier to get back in if you clean the bits of plastic out of the grooves and hold it in an adjustable while you push and twist. Google Freelander 1 rear brake light switch, it’s all in there.

They aren't brake lights - the only brake lights are the ones that are working in the bumper and above the spare.

So they only illuminate when in reverse and fog lights are on. Not when the brake is pressed or night lights are on.?
Thanks for all reply’s might be a stupid question but had a member of the public point it out the other night and have been panicking since then lol.

I believe the reason the lights on the wings are not used for night/brake/indicator lights is because they can be obscured by the spare tyre - hence they are down low in the bumper.

Some people have done mods to make them work differently - but whether they are legal I'm not sure and they never left the factory in any other config.

I think it's a case of RTOM. ;)

Is GG said. The tail, brake and indicator on the RHS are low on the bumper, or they would be obscured by the spare wheel when the rear door is open. The high lights only do rear fog and reverse, neither of which would matter if they're obscured when the rear do is open.

That’s great, thanks for all the quick reply’s. New to forum so good to know there’s a lot of helpful people on here.
