I want to fit a Bench seat to the passenger side in the Rear of my 90 Hard Top.

Will i need some brackets to attach the seat and belts?

I can get a seat and the belts from paddocks but they dont know if i will need any extra bits to fit it all in.

Will i need to drill anywhere? Basically i have no idea how they fit in as i havnt actually been able to have a look at a landy with them installed.
 
i have 2 spare rear brown/beige cloth csw seats including fixings and seat belts i only put one side back after chequer plating the rear area..theese are 2 single ones not one bench,i could be persuaded to part with them for some wonga
 
whatever you do just make sure the underside of the seatbox inside the wheel arch you put some metal plate there so the bolts are nice and supported it may be there already but prob not if you dont have seats at the mo,plus then the seat belts have a good anchor fixing point
 
I would prefer to put a bench in there. would 2 seperate single seats involve more drilling for the fixings?

how do the fixings work? are they bolted to the seat box, and then to the seat? and are they also the anchor for the belts?
 
If your going to buy a bench seat (i.e for 2 pelople or more) you will get a metal frame (hinged to allow the actual seat to be folded up when not in use) and two cushions, one for the backrest (usually attached to the rear of the frame), and another to sit on.

Its hard to say what drilling you will need to do as your defender might allready have the holes, although its not a complex job at all and will be much easier once you have the bench seat which you can use as a guide as to tell you where the holes go.

Yes there are, I meant that the cushions attach to the backrest part of the frame.

If you buy bench seats, unless stated everything you need is included as shown, although If you have any specific questions its best to contact whoever you're buying them from e.g craddocks or paddock spares etc..

I spoke to paddocks earlier, they have the bench seat but he was saying they dont sell brackets / fitting kits.

so if i get one and 2 lap belts from what i can gather i wont be able to fit the belts to the seats or the seats to the back of the landy

the seats linked in the pic - do they have a fixing point on the frames that directly bolts to the tub? and do the belts connect to the same frame? as i can get a bench from a breaker and worry about belts afterwards..
 
lap belts on sideways facing seats are dangerous.

Imagine if you crash, the twisting action the body will be put through.

Also, there is NOTHING in that part of the LR to bolt a seatbelt to, it won't be safe or secure. Dont do it.

My bench seat was just bolted onto the top of the wheelbox, with a spreader plate underneath.
 
Nope, the whole frame unit is simply bolted to the wheel arches of the tub (it does have pre-drilled holes).

What if there are not enough seat belts for all passengers in a vehicle?

Currently, the law doesn't prevent you from carrying more adult passengers than there are seat belts. However, children up to 135cms tall must use child restraints with few exceptions, which means they must use the seats in the vehicle that have seat belts to secure their restraints. That can limit carrying capacity.

However, the way in which passengers are carried must not cause danger to any person in the vehicle, for instance by overloading with unbelted passengers. Adult passengers without a seat belt can injure others in an accident. The police can prosecute if they judge that an unbelted passenger is a risk to the others in the vehicle.

In a vehicle without rear seat belts (for example a classic car), childer aged three and over can only travel in the back. Those under three can't be carried at all because they must always use a child restraint.

And theres lots of other references to there being NO requirement to fit seatbelts to sideways facing seats.

Think about it.
If you are doing a high speed motorway journey, dont get loadsa people in the back.

Having said that, ive done it, jus take it sensible.
