Evening all,
Can anyone help ID the rear axle on my 1994 200tdi 90.

Its not the original axle as its got disk brakes and anti roll bar mounts but im not sure what its from.
Im just buying some parts to rebuild it and need to know whether its a later defender axle or whether it's from a Disco or RRC.

Unfortunately the serial number is impossible to read.
Whats the best way of telling what its from?

if it helps it think the front axle was replaced at the same time, possibly as a pair from the same place and its serial number is 61L02291A

Many Thanks!

With roll bar mounts it's almost certainly from a disco - very popular conversion to give rear disks.

Yeah, I fitted disco bearing kits to the front axle last year and they fitted perfectly, but they could be the same as the defender kits anyway.

I've just been told that the last of the 200tdi defenders were fitted with the rear disk braked axles. Is this correct??

It would make sense as mine is a 1994 L reg so one of the very last 200tdi's.

It does have anti roll bar mounts though?

Thanks

That does make sense re. the late 200s with discs, but I think the roll bars came in later on defenders.

yeah, its still got me puzzled

unless there is anyway to tell the difference between a defender and a diso axle of the same age?
I'm guessing the calipers and hubs are exactly the same?

If I were you, I'd look for a part number on one of the brake calipers, and google it/try the parts websites.

Rear anti-roll bar was standard from '86, rear discs were introduced in '93. So your axle is more than likely original, or like-for-like replacement.

great thanks chaps!
I'll check the calipers tomorrow to make sure the part numbers match up.
I'll just go ahead and buy the bearings and other parts for a defender and hope they all fit ok.

Don't be a faggot, look on axle tube for stamp with code

Thanks foxyred, I think it must be the original axle then which is nice to know and easier for ordering parts!
And haha, the serial number is completely illegible as I said at the top, I can just about make out about 4 dots on different letters/ numbers that's all

Do you mean 1996? No sign of them, or mounts on my 1990 90"
My bad, I'm going off my 110 with self-levelling suspension, ARBs standard with self-levellers from '86. Having looked into it I don't know if they ever became standard?
