Evening all,
Got a 2005 Defender 90 TD5 and had a rather grim clunking sound suddenly start from rear drivers side when dropping off a curb or a large bump, after further investigation i found the problem to be the ball joint on the end of the rear anti roll bar so I dropped the whole assembly out and found the ball joint on the had at some point seized(no rubber cover)and then snapped, the passenger side was not a lot better but did at least move and was still attached even with plenty of play in it, also the 2 rubber D bushes are shot and the anti roll bar looks pretty worn where they hold he antiroll bar in place.
Anyway I wanted to buy a complete replacement kit but only seem to find kits for front and rear combined, the existing front ARB assembly looks OK, so my question is does anyone do an off the shelf kit with everything (inc bar) I need in a box for the rear only, or am I better off just buying the combined kit and having the bits there when the time comes to replace the front.
Also is there much benefit in paying a little extra for the polyurethane bushes, it’s only small increase in price, but is it worth it?
First major job I’m going to tackle on Larry so want it to go as smoothly as possible.
Thanks in advance
Terry

I know quite a few people who regret fitting poly bushes to roadgoing Landys. They are easy to fit, but can be harsh and noisy. I am in the process of changing all of mine for OEM types.

Ah thanks for that, I have enough noise when I’m driving the Morgan with the roof down, honestly most of my driving in Larry is in and around the new forest, the roads are pretty bumpy but not too bad, I certainly wouldn’t want it to be noisier than it is now, it will be interesting to hear views from other members.

Well some will swear by them I'm sure but mine just squeeked unless it was raining. I think there must be varying quality parts, but fundamentaly, Landover must have spent a lot of time developing the original suspension components, so that's what I am sticking with. Only My humble opinion of course!

Well I spoke to the guys at Bearmach and after chatting with them decided to replace just the ball joints and D bushes and not the anti-roll bar.
I suppose time will tell but the net result is knocking noise gone, problem solved and all for less than £30, now that’s what you call a great value repair
