Hi All,

I'm trying to replace the rear air bags. The top and bottom R clips and air line came off easily enough but the top of the airbag seems welded in place. It's an OE bag with the Land Rover logo on it so I assume it's got a plastic top.

Any suggestions on how to get the airbag out please?

I tried pulling the old one off from underneath the car and will try crowbarring it tomorrow...

Depending on the year of the car, the top could be alloy. They can be a bugger to get out, crow bar is the way forward, you may even have to split the top after cutting the bag off

Hi Datatek

It's a 2001 model if that helps. I've never used a crowbar for car repairs before but I guess there's always a first time!

I'm trying to avoid destructive removal as the car is at least useable if i reconnect everything but I fear I may have no choice...

If it's an alloy top then dremelling out the cap after cutting the bag off may work?

A large crowbar and a "Lump Hammer" is defo the way to go...

Crowbar it is then. After I finish with the suspension I will be looking for body repairs!

It depends on how accurate you are with a hammer.
Driving a green oval you'll probably get more experience, not as much a our tratter driving cousins, but some.

Yep a long pry bar, i got a set of 3 sizes, essential for working on a range rover.

wedge the bar in the top of the airbag strain like you're trying to give yourself a hernia, it'll make an almighty bang when it pops off and scare you witless thinking you've bust something on you or the rangie..

the new one just sits in place nicely with no aggro !

Thanks everyone. Only 2 weeks into ownership but I'm getting to know the car well!

Oddly I still like it.

At least your willing to have a go, the only way with a range rover, diy or big bills good luck it is one of the easyer jobs

Clean out, treat the rust and paint the inside of the upper mounting.

Strangely keith, that's excaly what i did with mine .. except it was squeaky clean !! Yay !
