What could I get going looking at a 90 200tdi this week if it's ok I'm hoping to buy it,
What could I hope to achieve in miles/gallon?
I hear reports of anywhere from mid teens to 33 mpg?
 
How longs a piece of string. Loads of factors come into play that can affect mpg. Mines fluctuates all the time, last time I checked it was 27.5. Lowest I've had is about 22.
 
standard no roof rack light foot 33-35 at push. boot it and your get 20. keep it well maintained you should keep it in the 30's.
 
I travel 60miles a day so would be doing all I can to make it as economic as possible!! 30 mpg wouldn't be bad any engine mods that would help?

both my old 300tdi and my current td5 do 30 mpg if i'm reasonably careful, so should be obtainable from a 200 unless its around town:)
 
30+ I would say as long as you keep the speed down, stay at 50 - 55 and you will get more on a run:)

My 300 tdi Disco and the old 200 disco both returned around 30 mpg mostly urban with a light foot
 
My TD5 90 does between 25 and 27mpg but I do have a full length Hannibal roof rack fitted. When towing I'm lucky if it does 22mpg depending on trailer weight. If I wanted economy I'd take the bus ;)
 
never really tested my td5 110 , but my 56 plate 90 I got 29.4 towing our ifor Williams gross weight was 3940kg (+ me) on a run to dover from somerset .
 
I was getting an average of around 30 mpg. But since I put a snorkel on it has dropped to 26-28 mpg.
110, 200tdi.
 
I was getting around 26-28mpg, until I turned the pump up 1/4 of a turn and then I got around 28-32mpg. (Not thrashing it mind) that was on a fairly standard 200tdi 90 on 205 road tyres.
 
I just worked my mpg out again after going through 20 litres of diesel and I'm chuffed to bits that its putting out 34.1mpg :D. Vast improvement on what it used to be
 
What I have found to be best for fuel economy is to make sure it is properly serviced, all filters are changed, premium quality oil, fresh diff and gearbox oil.

Also pay attention to the tyres you have, perhaps have some high quality road biased tyres for the week and get some more aggresive tyres to use when playing.

Use good quality fuel. From experience I found that BP ultimate, even though it is more expensive than supermarket fuel, pence per mile it works out cheaper as you can can go further on a tank.

And finally, its not just a light tread on the go faster pedal it is also anticipating when you need to slow down. Using brakes wastes energy, the less you have to use them or come to the stop, the less fuel you will use getting back up to speed.

On my 90, yes it is a Puma I get about 34mpg but by using the same techniques I used to get 20+ out of a disco 2 V8 auto and 25-28mpg out of a disco 1 mpi.

Me too with a standard mushroom top snorkel !! and it makes sense when you think about it !

But would a safari type with opening faceing forward not funnel air down to the filter ?

I've still got my snorkel fitted and as I said I'm getting 34.1mpg. Helps that I took my roof rack off and fitted road biased tyres but its saving me some amount of cash
