Where can I get wiring cable that's the original colour coded stuff, to make my own loom. Has anyone done that and is it cheaper to do than buying the full harness ??

Thanks for the reply and advice. I'll save up.It is very hard to get hold of the exact colored wires, especially the striped ones. Unless the loom is completely buggered I would leave it as is, alternatively if it really needs changing then it is a lot less hassle to just fork out the £200 odd quid for a new one. If you consider the cost of materials plus an hourly rate for your own labour you will see it is hardly worth it to do it yourself.
good advice thanks. All the lights wiring has been replaced by towing cable and connections are corroded, earthing fails etc.... Have all the tools and connectors from restoring a sunbeam alpine, now sold. So will price it up and bear in mind everyones comments. Great forum, glad i joinedYou can get everything you need to make your own loom - e.g. from Auto Electric Supplies or Vehicle Wiring Products - including the correct colour cables, but by the time you add everything up, it might be cheaper to buy one ready-made. It depends on the state of your current loom - if it's not too bad, you could replace just the bad bits. It also depends what tools you already have - if you need to buy all the crimping tools for bullet connectors etc, it will get expensive!
I think the only time you have to DIY is if you have non-standard wiring e.g. if you add relays for the headlights or extra instruments, etc.
