Hi All,

Since the cold snap my 2001 TD5 keeps blowing the 30amp fuse that protects the rear window heater? A new fuse will last a couple of days then it will blow. I have checked that with a new fuse in place I am getting power to the window heater alright. I must have a short circuit somewhere that keeps making contct with earth sometimes, does anyone know of a known fault possibly the cable going through into the rear door from the car at the hinges?

Thanks for any advice & hope you all have a Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year.

Cheers

It's a Brown/Purple wire that only feeds the screen, there's nothing else on that circuit at all.

Suggest you take off the door trim and have a look inside to see if the cable has caught on anything.

30A is the correct fuse rating.

I have the same problem and replaced the fuse twice. After check the wiring and just fiddling with it I could not see any damage. since this it still blows the fuse...

I have the same problem and in this weather itÂ’s really annoying:doh:. So if anyone has had the same problem and now fixed it please shear the cure. Thanks:)

I too have that problem on mine. Interesting. I will check the fuse didnt think of that. But have pulled the plugs off and used some sand paper to clean up the terminals. It didnt work but it may have worked lol. Will check fuse after work. Thanks. But the indicator light on the instrument panel says its on. If the fuse goes would that still light up. Will check fuse anyhow.

i am waiting for some dry days before taking the door card off and fiddling with the wiring. In the mean time if any one gets to the bottom of this please post...

Just a thought - does the fuse only blow after the door has been opened.

If you drive around for the few days and everything is fine, does the blowing of the fuse corespond with the door opening, if so looks like a wiring problem where the cables pass from the body to the door imho

Strangely enough I have the very same problem on my 2001 110 TD5 Hardtop. Any clues from anyone else?

Well I checked the fuses on mine and and it isnt blown so looks like i have a dodgy screen element or dodgy wiring through the doorpanel. till i can borrow my brother volt meter then its all guesswork for me lol. doh
