Anyone know if Land Rover ever produced a version of RAVE in French?

It would be immensely helpful if such a thing existed. My P38 has failed its French CT test AGAIN - they are insisting that is has an ABS fault. IT DOESN'T!!

Being post MY99 it has 4 wheel traction control. But they are NOT disabling the TC before testing the brakes... There's a procedure for doing this outlined in the RAVE document. But because I only have it in English, and they won't accept my translation, I'm hoping that there exists a version in French.

Anyone?

TIA

I’m interested to know what the person actually details the fault as? ‘No’ is not mechanical jargon

If it doesn’t work (as they insist) but they are unable to fix it (as it doesn’t exist ;)/admitting their inabilty) what options do they offer you?

Find another garage would be my first choice I’m afraid :(

One thing that is clear here, is he does not know anything about 4x4 motors, that or they really dont like you, take it to another center when it passes take it back to the first with the pass and get him justify himself.

Given the potential risks, i don't understand why these garages aren't using a Tapely meter or similar.
No risk to the vehicle, no need change/disable anything

I take it you are still trying to get the car passed by the same tester at the same test station as at the beginning.
I'm guessing this is because it's a free retest but how many goes do you get?
What is the cost of one of these French tests?
It's apparent that he has no interest in helping you or even bothering to educate himself as to the correct procedure.
I suspect you could beat him around the head with a translation & it would still be 'Non'.
I suggest you need to get it tested elsewhere & if it passes without issue make a formal complaint to whatever body oversees testing.

No, this is a different test centre. The original list of fail items from the original test centre have all been remedied - except this blasted so-called "ABS fault". Oh, and this test centre has also failed it because the front side windows are "too tinted" [FFS!].

The ABS warning light behaves EXACTLY as it should, as defined in the Owner's Handbook.

I'm pretty sure it's the way that they are conducting the test. They are NOT disabling the TC before testing the brakes, which is giving rise to an anomalous situation.

I now have another 2 month period in which to fix the "faults" and return for a free re-test (you only get one free re-test).

C'est la guerre!

i can only speak from the perspective of UK MOT.. but..
this implies the testing station needs knowledge of the particular car in order to test it. needs to know how to disable a safety function. The MOT tester can only operate switches to check normal operation, eg, lights, wipers, horn etc. The tester does not need to know how to disable traction control (nor should the tester attempt to), cannot put folding rear seats in place to test seatbelts and cannot remove undertrays to check what lies behind them.
the key words are to test 'as presented'

is there a land rover dealership locally that you can speak to for opinion?

As many of you know I am in France and can speak French very fluently having taught it for 34 years.
All the advice is true and if you are the same guy as I posted to last time, my advice is still true.
You need to go to a LR dealer and get him to do the test and or provide you/new tester with a version of pages from the workshop/tester's manual that will show the sillt cnut how to conduct the test properly.
I am not a certified translator otherwise I would do it for you and you could take it to him.
You will get around this and then you should get compo from the first one, at least the cost of the faulty test he did.
Once it passes, you should also get him to refund the cost of the translation as the silly prick obviously does not know how to do the job.

If I was in your shoes I would be looking to complain to the people I told you about in your other thread, the official body in charge of testing centres.
You could also get the tester to talk to Rob at http://www.auto-essentiel.com/home/1 who speaks both French and English, being Dutch.

I am in the Tarn, don't know if that helps.
Wish I could help more as I do know exactly what you are talking about and his intransigence is insane. Did the tinted windows come with the vehicle? There is a light meter test they can conduct to prove tintedness i'd a thought.
All the very best mate!

Thanks for your suggestions. I'm just South of Vire in Basse Normandie (only a 9 hour drive from you! o_O)

There is a section in RAVE that explains that 4-wheel* TC MUST be disabled before testing brakes on a single axle brake tester, and it gives the instructions on how to do this. TC is automatically restored once the vehicle reaches 7 km/h

*4 wheel TC is fitted on MY99 onwards

The part number for the P38 Workshop manual is LRL 0326, my hard copy is published by Brookland Books Limited Tel 01932 865051. I guess they would know if a french one existed.... I suspect not - if you put LRL 0326FR in google you get nothing

I don't know how good your French is but lots of these frech people had similar problems, and since recently acceler/decellerometer testing is no longer allowed.

Their advice also is to get it tested by a testing station recommended by a Land Rover garage.
And yes there are bits on here where it says that the technicians doing the test often don't know their asses from their elbows.
They keep putting up a link to something thaat looks useful but i cannot get it to open.
I'll try harder to find this and then post it.

seems the french take the stance that running a permanent 4wd vehicle on rollers does not damage the car o_O

Give this guy a bell, he is English and is a Land Rover nut, (used to do a lot of trialling in the UK) he does prepping for the test.
I know he is a long drive south for you, but to be honest it could well be worth cutting your losses and taking it to him for testing and have an evening in a b&b.
I trust the bloke, about 5 years ago the Gbox in a disco went pete tong, he accepted a s/h unit being delivered to him, let me have a car for a couple of days, fitted the box and a new clutch. IIRC price was around 400€.
