My 06 TD4 has developed a rattly drivers side front window.

I can sometimes stop it by pushing the glass one way or another, at least for a while.
Would I be right in thinking the bolt that holds the glass to the lifting mechanism is likely to have come loose or can there be another reason?

I would check them although they do not usually come loose if done properly and to the right torque

I have replaced two window actuators during the 8 years I have had the car but not this one.
Oh well, I will have to wait for cooler weather as I am not a sun worshiper and keep out of it.

This is the UK in summer, you should be absolutely fine to undertake the task now
