Hi guys I have also got this same noise and can't find where it's coming from, it started off now and again but does it all the time now on our nice uk roads

Quick update.
Since I've had the new shocks on the rear, it hardly rattles anymore.
It's still there, but very infrequent.
Upside, it's really quiet.
Downside, it's now going to be a sod to find, and I can hear all the little rattles in the cab now:confused:

My update - well I checked the top hex' nut on the FRH strut, where I thought the rattling was coming from, and it was quite loose! Torqued it up and that rattle has gone. Now to nail that annoying creeking sound from the RRH corner. I'll do the same and check that nut on the top of the strut.

Thanks for the tip Nodge!

I had a worn outer steering arm joint last year - made a lot of noise over slightly broken ground

I checked the top nut on mine and it's tight. There is a plastic bearing on the strut top. I think mine is worn, allowing some slop between the strut piston and top mount. It's only noticed on small sharp bumps, not larger suspension movements.

You are right about the rattle on one of my cars being the strut Nodge. It gives a metallic noise I found most noticeable when driving over a pot hole where the suspension dropped suddenly. The weird thing is it would come and go so that it was really hard to find. On another car a nasty rattle was down to a duff CV joint on a propshaft, but have had drop links and track rod ends fail too.

y FL2 is making a rattling noise on the suspension when going over slightly bumpy ground its like a light knock i,m wondering if this could be ARB bushes or the droplinks ??

I've got this noise back again ! Top layer of tarmac missing and it sounds like the front wheel is going to fall off. Shaken it to within an inch of its life - no movement anywhere that I can feel. Anyone sorted it ? I think Nodge changed the lower arms and balljoint - did this help? Cheers

Since this post was last updated, I've cured my rattling knock through the floor. It turned out to be the large lower arm bush on the RH arm that had split through the middle. The LH was also beginning to split in the same place.

Replacement of both arms and large bushes cured the knock completely.
The ball joints were absolutely fine and still stiff in there sockets.

Is that the rear bush - the big one with the 'snubber' washer ?? What was causing the impact / noise (what was hitting what?)? Thanks......

A rattle that comes and goes. Mmmmmm

Bet it's the strut. Get one out of a scrapper to confirm.
Or a drop link (check with the wheels on the ground as it is under strain when jacked up).

Yes it was the large bush with the snubber. The centre tube was completely separated from the rubber. This allowed the arm to move rearward on sharp impacts. The snubber washer then slammed into the alloy housing, when the arm moved back to its normal position. The alloy housing showed wear marks where the snubber was striking it.
The knock has completely gone, now the bush has been replaced.
