Hi again, the G/L 1.8 circa 99 has developed a niggley rattle on the front suspension when going over small holes etc, no judder or wobble. when jacked up no movement in ball joints etc, any ideas? cheers keith:confused:

Drop links and anti roll bar bushes...
I changed mine last year made a big difference, also check that you dont have any loose screws or bolts on the front end of the body work...had that problem as well.
Hope this helps.

Oh btw they seemed ok when the car was jacked up , not to much movement but when i had the new ones hell of a difference in the tension on them.
Was worse with me going over speed bumps.

yep, new exhaust & mountings fitted at same time as head gasket, timing belts, water pump, thermo, air filter, front pads plus oil changes to g/box, ird unit and rear diff only 2500 miles ago {don`t mention the cost}.

me thinks it could be worth replacing the drop links etc as Tatooboo suggests, can one purchase the bushes or does one have to get the full damn drop link?

Just buy the full drop link they are not expensive.10/15 quid a side and i did the bushes on the anti roll bar at the same time i think they are 4/6 quid each..not exactly sure as my dad brought them over for me.
But its not a big job.

Yep drop links, sounds like a mini drum kit in the front, you also get a big thump when the front wheel 'steps off' high kerbs and dead police men (speed ramps)

Make sure ANTI-ROLL BAR is centralised in mountings and outer bends are about 1 inch away from lower end of shock strut, mine dented the o/s bottom end of the strut as the anti-roll bar had moved over and exposed 1 inch of shiny black roll bar paint.
