Good Morning. I have been offered a rare manual P38 4.0 petrol 1996. The car has only one owner from new and was specked up to vogue level by this owner as he wanted a manual, but could not buy the vogue model with this gearbox. The car is in Epsom green with tan leather and AC. The car has done a massive 260k with a proper replacement engine at 180k (liner slip) it has a full MOT but problems like battery drain and some suspension sagging after prolonged periods of lack of use. Cosmetically, the car is way above average due to a fastidious owner and the interior is (with the exception of the headlining) mint. It also has a removable extra two seats in the rear, covered in the correct leather. I have known the car for about 15 years and would like to offer a fair price. What do you all think it’s worth?
Many thanks.

OK maybe I asked for that! Come on, it must have some value? My worry is that he won’t sell if the price is too low and it will sit and rot in a shed!

That sounds about right. I think that with a modest investment, it could be absolutely mint. He is driving it home (600 miles) next week so that should be interesting!

The 4.0 litre had Manual as an option as standard - this one won't be a one off rare build just to fit the Manual box.

Vogue wasn't around in the P38 til much later, in 1998 I think. This one is probably a 4.0 Manual with the options ticked for the HSE model....

At that mileage, it won't be worth much, so yes, sub £1k.

The value of the car is what it's worth to you not what anyone else thinks your value Mabey higher or lower just bid him on what you think it's worth

So engine has only done 80k? Of course, the running gear will be feeling it but that's by the by for cars this age. £1k to £2k if you really like it sounds reasonable.

I wouldn't look at it personally, i bet the rest of the drive train is close to biting the dust.

Totally off topic ..........Going by your latest Sig pic, I take it you have found an interest other than your P38

In my view - it all comes down to how it's been looked after...
Yes, new engine which has 80K on it - so that's been done, and if it's been looked after will keep going for ages. I know a guy who's got 360K + on his P38 and it's still going strong, though I think he did the engine a couple of years back - but he does 30-40K/year on it from memory.
If the interior is all good, and the other bits and pieces have been looked after, then I'd probably go up to a couple of thousand.

Finding decent P38's which have been looked after is getting harder, and things like battery drain - while a pain - aren't expensive to diagnose/fix these days. RF interference is a common one, which there are fixes for - and door latch microswitches are known to cause battery drain if they are getting iffy. The advantage is that none of the issues are new, so all well documented and relatively easy to fix without breaking the bank!

My 0.02

Im with the don't bother crowd on this. Anything over scrap is a waste. Miles are to many. Just because it's a manual is not a reason. Buy a Japanese import with tiny mileage. A Holland and Holland. Anything.... but not this one!
But it's your cash....
