After coming across this:

landrover series 3, 88 TAX EXEMPT very rare! | eBay

(and read the question at the bottom, what a idiot, but anyway)

Can anyone work out why it is 'rare' - anyone found any other 'rare' common land rovers for sale?

obviously rare cos its the model without a passenger door

Might be because it's tax exempt. Only early Series IIIs are exempt afaik.

It doesn't rust, doesn't leak water and oil and doesn't smoke. Surely that's gotta be a rare Land Rover

I think you may have the "rare" quality there, S111 introduced in '71 last tax exempt vehicles produced in '72, so tax exempt S111's only produced for a little over a year.
