:):):):blabla::blabla::blabla:RANGER ROVER P38 DIESEL POWER TUNING CHIP 1995 TO 1999 From Rimmer Bros

I just recently fitted one of these new digital chip in my 1995 2.5 diesel P38 ......WOW...... what a difference in power, why it didn't come as standard like this I don't no, but this chip make one hell of a BIG difference, in performance, MPG gives me around 3 more miles in town 27/28mpg, and about 3.5 to 5 miles on motorway depending how you drive, 60/70 mph, it takes a couple of days to settle in, but you do notice the difference as soon as you put it on, disconnect the battery first???? but after a few days things seem just to get better much fast on pulling away no lag, if you if 5th gear doing say 40mph put your foot down and your away, turbo cuts in better and you feel the GGGG's as she pulls away unbelievable, best money I ever spent not cheep but worth it if you like your P38 diesel, which I do, I have spent fortunes keeping mine up the scratch and doing her up sort of my hobby best car I ever had, just wondering now if I can find a better gear box which will give her more range in the gears, have to see what might be out there I can change it with as with the new chip and power,,, the gear box just slows and holds her down on acceleration? and could do with a 6th gear?? just wonder if any one might no is the petrol gear box better in the range and would be easy to change over,,, or dose anyone have or no how I can improve the gear box??? Get the chip if you love your diesel P38 and feel the power

 why did i assume it was auto? cos im a tw@
as if a chipped p38 needs a sixth gear??

I fitted a PSI to mine, and they are well worth it, the car was complete crap to drive without it.

In fact, I would not have the car without the PSI, I would buy a diesel Disco 3 or L322.

I have a manual and find the gearbox fine, dont forget, its never going to be fast with the BMW 2.5 engine in.

I wrote my post in good faith, with the silly idea that it might be useful to some others, being as silly as I must be thinking this was a site where we who love our Range Rover/Land Rover , I might get some useful idea's back on gear boxes, and maybe yes a 6th gear but seem to have been bless with none but snide remarks thank you.

Oooops sense of humour failure:violent:

Seriously, a manual box is only as quick as the person operating the stick. Even with the Power Box, the P38 at around 2.5 tonnes is never going to be that quick. Having said that, my Diesel auto performs pretty well compared to other 4 X 4's I've owned, pulling close to peak revs in top on the flat if needed and keeping up pretty well with most vehicles in the traffic light grand prix.:D:D

If u think they snide remarks u aint seen nuthin yet :D:D

can you get a 6speed box for a 2.5diesel? i would like to also do that mod, when driving on the motorway its not about the speed just the engine seems to make a nosie like it needs the next gear

im confused, my dse manual was remapped and i had no probs in any gear was fast as feck for a 2.7t diesel...towing was crap but ive found that with 4.6 and the disco auto's

How much you pay for the chip mate if you dont mind me asking?? and how difficult are they to fit?

Cheers
Shaun

Hmm, maybe, i remember comparing weights after me slitty went between the 4.6 and the 2.5 and was surprised to see theres not a lot of diff with the r/r's ...of course i may have got it completely wrong... thats never happend before :rolleyes: :D

You really are quite a snivelling little so & so aren't you. Maybe you should think about moving to another forum if this one aint good enough for you. Good riddance to bad rubbish methinks.

Hi,,,, the chip is around £300 from Reimmer bros but is well worth it,,, really best 300 I have spent on mine and only take about 10 mins to fit,,,, if you get one, disk connect the batt? first before fitting, there are 4 plugs, you plug in very easy to do two from to chip to the car and the plugs that you change around go in the other plugs on the chip hope that off help

Well, I would not recommend to put a box from petrol engine...

Once a gear box was spoiled some why on a diesel Ford Maverick and they have spoiled next two in short time before they understood that they put a box for petrol engine...

Diesel has better torque as you may know and a petrol gear box cant just cope with that... :)

Don't know about Ford Maverick, but if we are talking Range Rover here one or two problems arise. First of all gearbox on petrol and diesel are same unit, the only difference being that the petrol engine has a larger torque converter to take up the much larger BHP output. So i cannot see how fitting a power box from a diesel engine on a petrol engine (if that was possible) and i doubt it is, could possibly screw up a petrol transmission. It being capable of absorbing more power than the diesel unit.

Although it's not true of the Rangie because the V8 petrol has masses of torque and therefore is not so different from the diesel, but on normal cars the diesel version often has much more torque than the equivalent petrol version. Auto boxes were not an option with diesel on some cars because of the higher torque loading which needed a stronger box. At least that was one of the reasons put forward by a certain manufacturer.

Cannot speak for other manufacturers but do know that mainly the only thing to suffer from introduction of more power to the diesel Range Rover is the torque converter, it being smaller that the petrol version. More heat build up in the converter from absorbing more power causes overheating of the converter and this causes the internals to warp. That is the reason Range Rover recommend NOT fitting the driving lamp to the N/S position in their service sheets. Doing this blocks off the air flow to the transmission oil cooler. Possibly not a problem if the vehicle is used just for driving around, but if a power chip is fitted and a lot of towing is done it could create major problems with the torque converter, especially if your vehicle has a few miles on it and is not in the first flush of youth.
