I wonder if it's like the old Disco where they get stuck (I think they called it lockup) and you had to reverse to get it out 🤔
What would that process be? I just want to try and get it out of low range mode instead of waiting god knows how long to get a new switch
 
Like @Henry_b said, it could the potentiometer or it could not be.. but first thing as always;
- check switch works
- replace fuses

^ If you've done these and still not working, I would just suggest taking it to a land rover specialist (not just any garage) to see if they diagnose it.
 
Do I need to order a new shift motor?
Ideally you need to get the old girl to a LR specialist or indy and get them to diagnose, they'll have the diagnostic equipment which makes life easier,

You can check the potentiometer but it requires you to lay under her with a multimeter :)

high low range switch not responding, when I pull it towards me nothing comes on on the dash big registering the button

When you say replace fuses do you mean try fuse 37
 
Also found this and yes I know it's stuck in low but still worth a try IMO.

Try resetting the Transfer Box ECU doing the following...

1. Turn the ignition key to the on (first) (not start) position.
2. Press the accelerator pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.

This clears the Potentiometer settings and typically allow you to go into low range. If this works, then you need to go between low and high range 3 times. The first is from a dead stop and the second two are while moving around 8-16 kl/hr (you still need to shift into neutral while moving).

Hmm so @rebeccaSP91 nothing comes up on the dash when you try to select Lo/Hi with her in drive?

They bong and tell you to select neutral if you do that, so in my mind it sounds like it could also be the actual selector switch?

@backinblack any wisdom? @Bemble ?
As you say they should bong and say select neutral. I'd be checking the switch with a multimeter, if it's just a switch with no resistor in it the OP could just short the connectors briefly to bypass the switch?
 
@rebeccaSP91 I assume you have your foot on the brake (I'd need to try it but just going off the manual)

Stationary method
With the vehicle stationary and the engine
running, apply the foot brake and then move the
automatic gearbox selector to the ‘N’ (neutral)
position before moving the transfer gear switch
(arrowed) fully rearwards. When the switch is
released, it returns to the default position.

Switch doesn’t do anything
 
Is it this one? I believe they introduced another version in the same year.
