Hi i have an L322 Range Rover with analogue tv, is it possible to upgrade to digital to get freeview as is fitted on newer models. Can i just change the tuner box? Thanks for your help

read youir old blog, I have a 2005 rangerover. needs tv digital upgrade, have you any ideas who does who can do this, and at what cost. (alitoe@ntlworld.com) cheers,

Early L322S share the same tv tuner units as BMW cars of the time, notably X5s......you could check on a site like toysinyourcar.com what units are available for what year. The BMW unit just swops out as plug and play, but the digital unit is very expensive - around £800+ - and very few come up in the used market. Alternatively, you can wire in a Freeview box - you get small 12v boxes for this purpose on ebay or a good car audio supplier - this could be done for well under £100 but if you have a satnav screen you are likely not to have full screen funtionality for the tv and will need to connect it up to the AV socket.
Also note that digital tv in car isn't great.......reception needs to be perfect before you get a picture. At least analogue gives you a fuzzy pic if you're on the borderline of reception, but digital is either perfect or simply not there at all!! It'll improve in time when the transmitter power is cranked up after full switchover though.

freeview pictures in car are EXCELLENT...so much better..perfect pic 95%+ of the time..

go buy a decent tuner and decent antennas..ie twin diversity tuners, active antennas, latest chip set... etc....not expensive sub £200 if you hunt.

I have been searching for a few weeks now and found :-
Range Rover RR-UTVS1 In Car Digital TV Upgrade .
This looks very interesting and inexpensive but would like to know if anyone has fitted and tested one of these upgrades.

Its a bigger job than you think.
You need at least two antennas fitted( front window and rear window to give you all round coverage)
Then you need a good digital tuner.
The one i used has a built in tv on the go so ican watch it whilst driving.
Also mine is fully functional with the touch screen.

I used a company called source sounds in sheffield.( google them)
Ask for christian ellis.
800 quid fitted with a dvd player.

i changed my whole stereo and got a DVD, Satnav, Bluetooth, SD player, ipod and freeview Touch screen system for less then £400 !

beats the old fashioned early L322 systems ! lol

How much wiring was involved in swapping the head unit - does it plug into the existing loom, and use the existing Range Rover amps? Cheers

For less than £400? I guess you fitted it yourself? I'm in Hull, East Yorkshire and keen to have this done. Certainly not something I'd tackle myself though.

There's a guy in Birmingham did mine I had digital tv tuner, a reverse camera and tv in motion for less than £350
He also sorted my parking sensors and coded out the bulb warnings on some of my lights.
Had a great experience really nice chap and definatly knows what he's doing.
I found him on eBay. I had to go to him as I live outside of the West Midlands but it was well worth the trip for the money I saved.
Saw many good reviews of his work which led me to his website too it's http://www.vehicleinstallationsolutions.co.uk/
It's great to get tv back in our old one cars!
