hi.
Just an update on my L322 steering column where the column motors would not work.
I put up with it since I owned the car but thought I would bite the bullet and keep my eyes open for a reasonably priced working second hand one and one recently came up on eBay.
As soon as I got it I removed the upper and lower facia to give me access to the column Ecu plug.
Plugged the new column in and it took within 10 seconds and started the car.
Stoped and started the car several times to be sure it was ok.
Planned to swap over the column when I next had a free day.
I was also on the lookout for a new interior because my drivers seat like many others was missing the trim on the seat switch pack and the heating element in the drivers seat was also Kaput..
mine was a HSE model so fancied the vogue interior with bigger electric headrests.
Got lucky when one came up local on eBay .
A blue vogue set.
Fitted these this weekend and guess what the the steering column sprang back into life.
So the power must go through the seat switch .
The moral of the story is to check everything first.
I am a happy chappy with a great new interior and a working tilt motor on my steering column.
Hopefully be able to sell the column I bought back on to someone else
Regards Mark

Did you ever ask on here about the power to steering column? Just curious, as I know I put up mybtale about the seat/steering column connection and, just before the search button went kaput, someone had asked about the same issue. To be told the box behind the seat controls also affects the steering column.
Moral of the story ...... Just search, if it's working, if not, ask, someone will tell you ;)

Just as an aside, what's with all these crappy L322s at the moment? I've never heard the 'trim on the seat switch pack being missing' to be normal, nor the heating element to be knackered, or any of the other things people seem to think is 'normal' for older L322s.
Sounds like some dodgy folks out there passing off crap as 'normal' for the model :rolleyes:

Yes gold rover you did point me the direction before but as everything else worked on the seat control I assumed with help on here it pointed towards a bad column and did not want to remove without having a working unit to replace it with.
Regarding the drivers seat trim the more affordable L322s on EBay have broken or half/fully missing.
The heating element on my old drivers seat could be switched on and the bulb would light on the control panel and then turn itself off after about 30 seconds that’s why I assumed the element.
Just wanted to update to help others

Ah right didn't know it was you, just remember someone asking.
Without seeming too out of touch, because I haven't looked at early l322s for sale on EBay, unless someone posts a link. What classes as more affordable?
Also, as you have bought one, do they actually work out as more affordable, once everything is fixed? As tone can be misconstrued in text, not a sarcastic question, just curious.

In hindsight I should have taken my time looking and probably would have saved myself a fair bit of work.
Vehicle and parts probably cost around the three thousand mark but I have done everything myself so would have been considerably more if taken to a garage.
But I have no regrets and would definitely buy another possibility a V8 with LPG or a V8 at the right price and get the LPG added.
A lot of L322s out there round the 3 grand price but I would be happy another armed with what I have learned over the last 8 months

Also the V8s seem considerably cheaper.
I assume because of the cost of fuel.
But LPG is around 70p a litre so makes running it practical

Continuing to it's logical conclusion, how many hours do you reckon you have put in, sourcing and fixing? I class my time as valuable (ask anyone who keeps me waiting more than 15mins ;) ) , whether it be working or playing, so wonder how much you would say, the time put in equates to money-wise?
I'm not knocking you or trying to undermine what you have done. Just curious as to whether 'affordable' really is cheaper. Or if , in the long run someone thinking they are getting an affordable L322, is going to pay over the odds for it , once they calculate their time ,as well as their money?
