There are three pumps from what info i have gleamed, intank lift pump, middle pump and high pressure injection pump.

Not sure that fitting an extra in line pump is a good idea. If it only happens when the tank is low, maybe the pump is on it's last legs.No harm in putting some bactericide in the fuel.
ive never heard of that before can you post me a link of the correct stuff please?

i think its possibly been bad fuel because my local petrol station i had issues with my brand new jag diesel i got 3 years ago ran great i filled up there and it ran like crap till i used all the fuel

This is the sort of stuff, a bit expensive, I bought in bulk to treat my central heating tanks. a bit of searching and you should find it cheaper.

Can you test for water in the fuel?
Once upon a time you could drain water from the filter but no idea if you can still do that

hi look at the crank brether its near the air filter the could be blocked its not fuel but makes a big problem if not changed... start with millers (not redex) diesel adative put half a tank in and 2 shots it cleans every thing where redex just burns at a higher temp if there is crap in the trank.... put millers in at half a tank and dont go below 1/4 tank then you will find its its crap in tank or the pump witch there are two of...... if no problem after the millers for 1/4 of tank its the pump high or low... ps i have a l322 3.0td6 2005 and never let the fuel light come on and never had a problem.. millers is great more mpg and power and a clean.....anymore needed left me know

Im guity of running mine out of fuel.
Fuel sender is in wrong/reading wrong.
Get it when fuel lights on.
Rear seat up.
Lift carpet.
Remove inspection hatch
Loosen sender (rhs of tank)
Arm in left hole and remove fuel transfer tube from sender.
Remove it carefully.
Look at the bottom of the tank beige bit I bet there's next to no fuel in it when its cutting out low.
Also aftermarket pick up senders the filter on the pump is slightly diffeent to oem and can't suck fuel as low as an oem one.

Takes about 30mins

Mine ran out with 30miles claimed. Turns out it will only ever go as low as 8 miles then start adding miles back up.

Used those additive a lot on boats, water in the diesel and bacterial growth were a regular problem
i think its fixed now,i put some redex diesel in the tank when it was nearly out of fuel then i ran it till it died,i put more redex and some injector cleaner plus 80 pounds worth of the premium shell diesel i have since ran it to the yellow light twice and its not happened again!

so thanks guys it must have been the second filter ended up blocked or something and the concentrated redex and injector cleaner maybe removed dirt from a injector or something
