hi

yesterday night my dad had a loan of my td6 he ran it out of fuel i went down in my jaguar stuck 20 quid in it and it started rite up,well today its cut out twice when i stopped not while driving the strange thing is its not hard to start just fires rite back up but if you put it in park when you stop its fine. i had it parked facing down a steep hill before this happened

i stopped at my house left it in drive running for ten minutes its not did it again!

no error codes at all apart from my eas errors and 0 power loss still pulls harder than my friends range rover of the same type

im thinking ive sucked up dirt and maybe partially clogged my filter? should i open the shrader valve and see if any air comes out?im going to put a new filter on tommorow

Yes, I would try a new fuel filter first. Not sure what the setup is on those but might try blowing back the other way in case pipe partially blocked too. Hopefully nothing got as far as the injectors. Guess Redex wouldn't hurt.

And daddy has to go on the naughty step.

it was the fuel filter, the air filter needed changing aswell i went with a performance one it sounds great!

i dont understand why people call the 3.0 td6 a clattery old engine mine is one of the better sounding diesels ive owned

Not a K&N is it?

im still getting the cutting out issue even with a new filter but its only if i drive it on the yellow fuel light but its well abouve the 0 mark say about a 8th between that and the quarter tank?

should i not be running it down that far? do you think i could have a clogged pickup in the tank?its not really a issue i rarely allow the fuel light to come on but its a strange symptom no codes and it fires straight back up and only happens when you are coming to a stop not when sitting at idle either

im having a bucking issue in reverse could it be related?

Personally I try not to let any car I drive drop below a quarter tank.

Does sound a bit suspicious. Could be crud in the tank. Might also be worth checking the lift pump is working properly.

YEAH i was thinking the same thing,i think there is a little mesh grill on the lift pump it propably sucked up loads of crap because the filter was 1 month old untill my dad ran it out of fuel and you should have seen the state of it! it was worse than the one that was on for over a year!

so how easy is it to remove the lift pump? is it in tank or on the side?

Could be bacterial growth in the diesel. Not easy to remove the in tank pump.

do you think i should try some fuel treatment?
what do you guys think the issue could be? it only ever does it when the fuel light is on and never when moving plus its not hard to start after

i think i might try a inline fuel pump tommorow just to trouble shoot it i have one that you fit inline on the pipe coming from the tank i was thinking if the lift pump is the issue then with the inline pump fitted if the problem is gone thats the issue

its not really a big deal anyway as long as i dont run it too low on fuel

i think im going to fit one of these for a month or so to try catch any dirt i have sucked up

Not sure that fitting an extra in line pump is a good idea. If it only happens when the tank is low, maybe the pump is on it's last legs.No harm in putting some bactericide in the fuel.
