Hi Guys, my old 322 is starting to show it's age, so I have decided to look at a replacement. I am looking at the RR Sport, I'm not to sure about the V8 diesel model due to the turbo issues, and I don't know a great deal about the 2.7 and 3.0 V6 engines. I am looking at 2009 - 2013 years that have 100k on the clock. So I am looking for any help about the good and bad points. Thank you.

I would probably go with TDV8 personally. If it’s just the turbos put you off get one that’s recently been done or budget in for ‘what ifs’ when buying then there is little reason to worry about it
problem is the turbo feeds get gunked up and people tend to not bother getting them done even after new turbos.

If you've not already done so, I'd find the nearest Sport you can (at a dealer so you're not wasting someone's time) and have a good snout around it, drive it, see if it's a suitable replacement. Personally I think Sports are a big step down from the L322. It's like getting out of an S Class into a C Class.
For the money folk want for a Sport of that age and milage you can still get a pretty tidy proper Rangie.

Datatek I did see a 2.7 being offered with a damaged crank for £2,500. But I didn't realise it was a common fault, does the 3 ltr suffer the problem?
Marjon, I have got an 09 plate V8 to see at a dealer, he wants just under £9k.
jwrrc, I've had about 6 niggly things go wrong over the past 3 months so I'm looking at how much cash do I want to throw at it. I've owned it for 10 years now and in that time I've spent about £2k on it including tyres. I'm looking at dealers only with warranty.

indeed the 2.7 and 3.0 both suffer the same issue with cranks, even in the discovery 5

as a side note have also been looking at changing my D3 to either a FFRR or RRS and been doing some rough insurance quotes , wished to share in case it’s useful to u

If it's cost that little to keep it on the road, I'd say it's owed some money by now. Plus, to be honest, no matter how much cash you throw at a newer one (full size or sport) there's no guarantee you'll get a more reliable vehicle. They're all quite fussy about having the right jobs done with the right replacement parts, and someone a number of years ago can scupper your reliability cutting a corner you aren't particularly mindful of at buying time.
Obviously it's your money and your decision, but that's my tuppence.

I'd say it's really overdue some money being spent on it. A typical RR can cost £2k or more per year on maintenance and repairs.
£200 per year is nothing, that only just covers oil and filters, so I'm not surprised it's got 6 jobs impending, if not many more waiting to be sorted.

All the TDV6 engines can suffer sudden crankshaft breakage.
It's best avoid the TDV6 altogether, go for the TDV8 and do the turbos if needed.
If you're looking to avoid expensive maintenance or repairs, you're possibly looking at the wrong mark of vehicle.
 
the DTv6 was the one with crank problems
the SDv6 same engine but redesigned solved his problem
or so im told
my SDv6 now has 165000 km no problems ( with engine )
 
Iv got 1 off each, D3 tdv6, L322 v8 petrol on lpg iv just had the engine rebuilt a 2nd time after 1 of the new hg failed shortly after the previous rebuild. Iv been running around in a sport 4.2 supercharged V8 while the 322 was being fixed.
The 322 is a much better car in every way. The sport may have to be the wife's D3 replacment as we have impending ulez expansion comming to where we live.
I sold my P38 recently for the same reason and that was a nice car.

Keep your 322 fix it service it maintain it.....
