Sure there’s something there but can’t feel anything - starting to vibrate through steering wheel now. :(

My shafts have been off too many times to count and I have replaced the bolts only once. A bit of locktite might be an idea if you're worried.
 
Plan is get it round back up on stands this weekend to Flush engine with diesel mixture (may try ATF?) and change oil, check for play in steering/shafts for vibration. Hopefully il have something to get on the bolts. Can’t afford time/money to wait for ordering parts so just investigate.
If I have time delete incorrect NRV with something outta the shed :confused:, fuel filter and finish painting lettering gay :D:rolleyes:

it won’t cone off so others may as well match. Will be good undercoat colour if I do it silver as it would have been new.
No ones mentioned it yet, always say about tires and crumples :)
 
Just cracked off the filler plug when temperature got up to 30 degrees but I did not have any trickle of fluid coming out.
Stuck it a piece of paper and fluid is still reddish.
Pumped in a litre of ATF M1375.4 before it started to trickle so filler plug back in and took it for a test drive..
It has definitely made a difference the whine/vibration has decreased although still there it's a lot better.
Not sure if the mega flush option may be worth considering which costs about £260 or the gearbox specialists who said around £1800 for box and torque converter worse case scenario.
 
Will give a week to see if it worsens and then take it to the gearbox specialists to give it a proper diagnostic.
Next on the list is the door actuators.
Only drivers door and tailgate locks with central locking key or button inside.
Funny thing is the unlock will open all doors even after I have manually locked them all
 
No...no ghost locking.
Just wont lock with remote or internal central lock button on dash other than drivers door.
Seemed strange that all unlock ok but it is a Land Rover after all.
so could be 3 failed actuators over a period of time as I don’t know the history of the car.
Not a priority at the moment but will probably get one to change out to prove it’s the individual actuators
 
In my opinion i would not do a power flush on the transmission. We hade some clown take us to court as his transmission failed after we had replaced his timing belt!!!????????. After many discussions with the owner I told him the only way in which we had let him down was by not advising him to change his transmission fluid over the 4 years that we had been servicing it. It turned out that 1 month prior to us fitting the cam belt he had the transmission serviced at another workshop as we did not have the ability to do a power flush. The vehicle (not a Range Rover) had done only 120,000Kms. We won our case in court.

I plan to take the Range into my local garage to diagnose the problem.
Doing a bit of research and referencing the groaning noise when under load which is more pronounced at low speed I am guessing towards front diff or prop shaft centre bearing.
The rubber mounting at the centre bearing is worn and frayed.
Already replaced the fluid in the diff and on a second look shortly after there appeared to be a minor weep from somewhere.
Checked the breather which pops up next to the expansion tank at the front on the engine bay.
Cut the top off and the end end was totally blocked up.

That sounds reasonable. Well done.
 
ZF 6hp and 8hp ATF is a straw colour..

The transmission has be in excess of 40c to check the fluid..

don't super flush it..
 
Morning All...
owning a Range Rover is like doing a college course.
I believe now the issue is not with the gearbox or torque converter and is with either the prop shaft centre bearing or my front diff which had a blocked breather causing a weep of fluid fluid from the pinion seal where it links to the front propshaft.
Will update when correctly diagnosed
 
The local garage will lift it up and find any grinding or roughness in 10mins. Easy to spot when up in the air all wheels off ground difficult to pinpoint driving and crawling underneath.
 
If the AT fluid is red it's got the wrong fluid in. I'd get that changed to the proper ZF Lifeguard fluid.
I'd get a megaflush done.
 
Hi Everyone..
Just a quick update on my RRS front underneath groaning.
Local garage confirmed my suspension that it was the front diff.
Managed to source a second one off a 2008 for £65 and my garage fitted it last week.
So the car is now groan free and touch wood fault free
