well! thinking of sort of an upgrade,
have chance of an 06 TDV6 sport, all belts changed, full main steelers history, HSE, all the toys, £9.5 done 100k, silver, 20 inch wheels, all the toys,
bit wary, as have an 04 td5 disco now, i do about 4k a year if that, only moves when i go biking or have to pull the 3ton machine or a sunday car, mrs doesn't drive it, has her own golf, i do most of my miles in me van,
just fancy a newer car, don't want a D3 looks wise! but don't want a money pit, as cars are a waste of money! took 30 years worth of coin already!
so just wondering if anybody knows of any real hangups, most of the problems are electrics etc
1. can you upgrade an hawkeye for em
2. engine reliability
3 i know D3's surfer from elec issues
but there is plenty on the roads,
thanks and may your insults begin!

Suspension bushes and brakes, its a heavy vehicle and has quite an appetite for them. EAS problems aren't uncommon. The engines are reliable in the whole but cost when they go wrong. Make sure the belts have been changed because thats a big expense. If alignment is out can chew tyres at quite a rate. Can suffer electrical gremlins like any landie/RR of that period. This is just stuff I've read when I've considered them. I know 2 people who've had them, one a total horror story with legal action taken, and the other liked it so much he bought a newer one. Seems to be a gamble like any other D3/RR related product!

Belts have been done, both of em at 90K
half of the problem would be if i had one, not used enough! that's why i won't buy a D4 or newer sport,
have had both as demo's and curt cars ,
so if i get new parts on the D2, the 12 months warranty has ran out before it really puts miles on, sits in the garage! but is reliable, but rather getting left behind in comfort etc and looks, funny how you change as you get older, i have had RS2's, top spec sierra's, volvo's etc, so i like a car for looks as well as being practical, but still want some form of 4x4, don't fancy jap although the van is an Hiace and is and has been bomb proof,
but don't wanna be using my recovery on the insurance all the time either,

Couple of friends of mine have/had RR Sports. It would be fair to say they all liked the look and the drive but the irritating small electrical gremlims has soured the love affair. The one that is still in ownership is used locally but they have lost faith in it so if going away for a few days, they take a very old land cruiser!!!! But the RRS does look good on the drive!!!

Electric hand brakes are fun and lots of reports of the detachable tow hitch detaching itself when towing:eek:

There is a service action on the tow hitches now, some are having new rear cross members.

Love them,But I think I'd have a disco3/4 HSE if I had a choice. Doesn't the sport have the same chassis as a disco 3 ? .But whatever I get next I'll still keep my disco 300tdi ,love it. The mileage you'll be doing I'd get a V8 for sure !

"but still want some form of 4x4, don't fancy jap"

Defender falls into "Some form of 4x4" and will happily sit unused

stop looking at modern land rovers then :d

they all are a waste of money. but you need to have one to get about! the Toyota i have is the best vehicle, had em for years, mrs won't ride in an hilux as it's a pickup, besides the dog wouldn't be able to jump in as it's getting old, don't want to go everywhere in me van, bit of comfort, so the green oval, D2 but is getting a bit dated, but it is reliable, like the look of the sport always have, depreciation is at a slower rate than a new one, but don't really want expense of main steelers, oh well maybe keep the old D2, owes me nowt!
